The University of Nottingham Ningbo China is offering a full tuition scholarship worth £9,000 (RMB90,000) to a graduate from any discipline – and from anywhere in the world – who would like to pursue a masters degree in entrepreneurship.

The University’s MSc in Entrepreneurship, offered for the first time from September, is aimed at equipping you with the skills and knowledge you need to conceptualise, develop and successfully run your own business.

The programme prepares individuals for self-employment as well as careers in larger organisations.

The entrepreneurship degree is uniquely offered at a branch campus of one of Europe’s top business schools, Nottingham University Business School China.

This means you work towards a highly sought-after postgraduate degree from a reputable UK university while developing and deepening your knowledge of important business concepts from the vantage point of China – a country with unrivalled business and trade opportunities.

A strong feature of the programme is that much of the learning takes place outside lecture rooms and off-campus so that students can see first-hand how business works in China and can develop an understanding of how to engage effectively with international partners and clients.

Teaching sessions are highly interactive and case study-focused, so that there is less emphasis on abstract theory and more on acquiring knowledge and developing problem-solving abilities that are highly relevant to modern business and industry.

The coursework you will be expected to complete prepares you for real-life business management.  An extended business plan, which could be applied after you graduate, is part of the requirement for the qualification of Master of Science in Entrepreneurship.

The MSc in Entrepreneurship is designed for postgraduate students with little or no previous knowledge of business, as well as business school graduates, and provides an opportunity for non-business and management majors to switch paths.

Professor Fey noted that another exciting aspect of the programme is that the University will aim to create opportunities for students who produce the better business plans to connect with venture capitalists looking to fund new projects and play a role in developing them into highly profitable operations.

“This is a highly innovative, unique masters degree programme that gives you a taste of what it is like to run your own businesses as well as the opportunity to develop your own business dreams and goals.  The programme is going to produce some top business people,” said Professor Fey.

Core modules include subjects that provide an essential foundation for any business player, including marketing, finance and accounting.

“Unlike ordinary marketing, finance and accounting programmes, our entrepreneurship students will explore these subjects from the perspective of an entrepreneur who needs to maximise every opportunity to make money,” said Professor Fey.

“Increasingly, larger organisations are valuing people who can act entrepreneurial inside their firms to keep their firms well-aligned with customer wishes and who are constantly innovating. The interaction of people from diverse backgrounds, which is typical in business, is also a strength of the programme and leads to good learning,” he added.

Students will graduate with degrees from The University of Nottingham, UK. All lectures and seminars are delivered in English and all assessment will be in English at the Ningbo, China branch campus.

International students may be required to provide evidence of English proficiency. There is also the option of spending a preliminary year honing English skills for academic purposes.

On the morning of April 17, a teachers’ training class for the KAB project opened in Ningbo Institute of Technology of Zhejiang University. The class has 35 students from institutions of higher learning in Ningbo and people from the College Graduates Business Park of Ningbo.

The training class aims to train a team of qualified people who are capable of guiding and supporting more college graduates to establish their businesses. In the five-day class, the trainees will receive systematic trainings in theory and practice. Those who pass the examinations will get the certificate of completion of courses authorized by All-China Youth Federation and International Labor Organization. Those who are engaged in business training for 36 hours will be awarded the certificate for the lecturer of the KAB project.

It is reported that Ningbo will strengthen the construction of the College Graduates Business Park and provide college students more opportunities for practice in business establishment. It will encourage colleges and business parks to play a greater role in the education and guidance of the college graduates in business establishment. It will involve authorities of institutions of human resources and entrepreneurs of middle and small enterprises in giving guidance and support to college graduates in their business establishment.

The 19th Fire Fighting Home Robot Contest was held at Trinity College, Connecticut, in the United States over the last weekend. A Chinese team from Ningbo University of Technology (NBUT) achieved outstanding results. One contestant named Lin Haojie received the third prize in the Olympic Knowledge Competition, which was one division of the contest.

A total of 164 teams representing countries including the United States, Indonesia, Canada etc. participated in the contest. The contest offered prizes in several divisions which were further divided into junior grads, high school, senior and walking (any age). A total of 48 teams, including a team from Pennsylvania State University, participated the senior and walking division. The contest included a poster competition, an Olympic knowledge competition, and fire fighting competition. For non-English contestants, the Olympic knowledge competition is not only a test of the robotics, but also a test of English comprehension, which is even more difficult.

The NBUT team is composed of teachers and students from the college of Mechanical Engineering. As the only Chinese team, the team won first prize in last year’s contest. Lin Haojie got the fifth place in fire fighting competition, and Du Kefang and Dong Chunlei got the sixth.

On March 4, a newspaper in Zhejiang Province published a report titled “foreign Lei Feng who support 15 poor children in China “. The story is about a foreign professor who funded 15 needy students within a few years. The professor’s good deeds have won him wide respect and admiration.

Days ago, many readers called the newspaper or left messages on their microblogs to express their admiration to Professor Craig Fleming from University of Nottingham in Ningbo, and their willingness to help him in his charity work. Yin Xiaoguo, a high school teacher in Fenghua, was among the first callers. Having been a teacher for 25 years, Mr. Yin is also a charity volunteer who has funded three university students and two pupils.

At 9:00 on the 7th, Mr. Yin had a brief telephone conversation with the personal assistant of Professor Fleming. According to the assistant, Professor Fleming plans to support another 10 needy girls in Ningbo. Mr. Yin has promised to offer help by finding the needy children and emailing the information of these children to Professor Fleming.

According to local government, Beilun District plans to carry out a five-year education support program to Yunhe County, a less-developed area in Zhejiang Province. Lasting from 2011 to 2015, the support program works to enhance the quality of education in Yunhe County by providing education funds, teaching staff and school facilities in a bid to improve school conditions and educational level in the region.

According to the plan, Beilun District will spend 2.5 million yuan (500,000 annually) on standardized school construction, school buildings renovation, building of job training bases of vocational schools, and renovation of rural kindergartens. Each year 20 competent teachers will be appointed as trainers for 40 teachers in Yunhe County, and offer their experience in teaching method, course design and planning, and educational research. In addition, Beilun will offer free training for 50 teachers from Yunhe each year and send one or two outstanding teachers to serve as volunteers in Yunhe County.

The supporting program also helps to improve the level of school management in Yunhe County. The teacher-training program will focus on the vocational and technical education and professional development, aiming to promote the level of specialization of workforce training base in Yunhe County

It is learned from Ningbo College Work Conference held on February 21 that by the end of 2011, there had been 145,000 present college students in Ningbo, up by one third compared with that of 2005.

Since 2006, an annual special fund of 50 million yuan has been invested in building the service-oriented education system in Ningbo. By 2011, the per capital funding for students of higher vocational colleges had reached about 90% of that for undergraduates with the same major, and it will reach the same level within two year. The ratio between undergraduates and junior college students has become 60:40 in 2011 instead of 44:56 in 2005. The present graduate students in Ningbo reached 6282 people. In last year, in the ranking of comprehensive scientific research strength for universities in China issued by 2011 Chinese university appraisal group, Ningbo University ranked No. 99, marking a great breakthrough in the higher education history in Ningbo. Besides, the State Oceanic Administration of China and Ningbo People’s Government have signed an agreement to co-build Ningbo University. Ningbo Polytechnic ranks among the first batch of state demonstration vocational colleges. Ningbo University of Technology is listed among the pilot universities for the “excellent engineers plan” by the Ministry of Education. Zhejiang Wanli University is defined as a pilot college for Master’s degree graduates by the Academic Degree Committee of the State Council. Ningbo Nottingham University signed a four-part agreement with University of Nottingham, Ningbo Education Bureau and Ningbo Science & Technology Bureau to co-build the “International Doctoral Innovative Research Center”.

By the end of 2011, there had been 11 state-level characteristic majors and three state demonstration majors for high vocational education. In terms of discipline construction, Ningbo University and Ningbo Nottingham University made the breakthrough of PhD granting.

It is proposed in the College Work Conference that the focus of the higher education development should be put on optimizing the talent cultivating patterns and improving the cultivating quality. Universities and colleges should adjust to the demand of economic and social development, as well as providing service for the transformation of economic development mode and industrial transformation and upgrading.
