The 2012 Chinese Spring festival Event in Tengtou village. ALL FREE– see it here……

About a dozen foreign friends had free transport to and from Tengtou on Friday  20th January 12.30 pm and started at the parking lot behind the church at Tian Yi Square. (348 Disco)

The event, organized by the leaders and  villagers of TengTou village included Free entrance to TengTou village, free Tour, Free Strawberry picking, Free traditional village Spring Festival dinner.

For those which did not participate here some pictures and facts of the special once in a year event “spring festival in Tengtou”:

There have been some cool interactive attractions and nature based programs aimed at natural sustainability. For example… in one part of the village they have a beautiful expansive greenhouse erected housing some rare plants and focusing on new hydroponic growing techniques. While on the other side of the village the visitors could monkeying around with hoists, buckets and a devise I can only describe as an enormous exercise bicycle contraption rigged to a rotating system of buckets. The area is meant to interactively show you how villagers in the past manually transported water using old methods. Definitely not the rice harvesting village life I would expect, but in Tengtou, it is a mixture of old and new.

On top of the sites, which are fun and educational, there are the villagers themselves. Smiles abound and you can really see a connection with the people to the village.

Everywhere you see that people are proud of what they have accomplished, and they should be. Tengtou is an important landmark in Ningbo, and a window into a fading chapter of Chinese life.

Especially in the year of the dragon, it is to mention that Tengtou and Fenghua are considered as the home of the China Dragon Dance. More than 300 Active groups are performing dragon dances in the region. But only a few foreigner had the chance to be part of it.

The event had created great interest by the news media KanKanKan ( NingboTv) Zhejiang Tv, CCTV, and several representatives of the press media did attend and report about the event.

Each one attending had a happy day while learning more about the Chinese past and present.

On December 12, Ningbo Chinese Culture Promotion Society was established officially. Present in the founding ceremony are Wang Zhizhen, Vice-chairman of CPPCC, Feng Pei’en, member of Standing Committee of CPPCC and Vice-chairman of Jiu San Society Central, Wang Shi, Vice-chairman of Jiu San Society Central and executive Vice-president of Chinese Culture Promotion Society, Wang Liping, member of Standing Committee of CPPCC and Vice-president of Chinese Culture Promotion Society, Chen Xin, Deputy-secretary of the Municipal Party Committee, Song Wei, member of Standing Committee of the Municipal Party Committee and Vice-mayor Cheng Yuechong. Wang Zhizhen, Wang Shi and Chen Xin delivered speeches in the meeting.   

Li Congjun, Director of Xinhua News Agency and some cultural celebrities like Feng Jicai and Yu Qiuyu sent their congratulations by phone and mail. Some former officials including Chen Yong, Xu Jizi, Shao Xiaojie, Chen Jiwu and Li Xiuli attended the meeting. Fu Dan, Vice-chairman of Ningbo People’s Political Consultative Conference and Chairman of Ningbo Federation of Literary and Art Circles, was elected chairman of the Society. Over 150 representatives from the fields of culture, art and enterprises were present in the meeting.

Ningbo Chinese Culture Promotion Society, a non-profit society with a comprehensive representativeness, is attached to Ningbo Federation of Literary and Art Circles. It is composed of prominent specialists in literature and art, scholars, entrepreneurs and cultural activists, and aims to promote distinctive Chinese culture and local culture of Ningbo.  

In his speech, Wang Zhizhen spoke highly of the economic and social development of Ningbo guided by Ningbo Party Committee and Ningbo Municipal Government with the view of scientific development. The culture radiation power has further enhanced. The establishment of Ningbo Chinese Culture Promotion Society is an innovative stride forward in Ningbo’s effort to build a strong cultural city.

Chen Xin pointed out in his speech that the foundation of the Society is a great event in the city’s literary and art circle. He hoped that the Society may earnestly fulfill its objective of “developing the Chinese culture and promoting international exchange”, and make newer and greater contributions for the construction of a strong cultural city and the prosperous development of Chinese culture

Ningbo ranked eighth in the evaluation for Top Chinese Leisure City for the year 2011. According to the ranking list issued by CTLA on October 17th, 30 cities out of the 287 Chinese cities were the “2011Chinese Leisure Cities” and the top ten were the “2011 Top Chinese Leisure City”.　　
“The 2011 Comprehensive Evaluation on the Development of Chinese Leisure City” is under special support of the National Tourism Administration of The People’s Republic of China and sponsored by CTLA, Travel 163.com and qunar.com. Travel 163.com and China Travel and Leisure have opened websites for public vote, which has engaged voting of 1552693 netizens from March 28th to October 8th, 90% of which are effective.
The evaluation takes into account such indexes as population density, air quality, greenbelt area per capita, greenbelt area per capita, city road area per capita and disposal rate of domestic sewage and living garbage, etc.
Specifically the cities that have got the title as the “2011 Best Chinese Leisure City” are Qingdao, Hangzhou, Chengdu, Yantai, Sanya, Huangshan, Shanghai, Ningbo, Qing Huangdao, and XI’an respectively.
