Primary and middle school students in Jiangdong present their books to their school mates of migrant worker families, as a gift for their new semester.

Processing trade has become a new growth point in foreign trade of Ningbo. According to Ningbo Customs, from January to July this year, the total value of import and export processing trade of Ningbo reaches 11.16 billion US dollars, increased by 40.1% above the same period of last year, covering 27% of the import and export total. Of the total value, import reaches 4.09 billion and export 7.07 billion, increased by 51.5% and 34.2%. The trade surplus is 2.98 billion US dollars, covering 23.3% of the trade surplus of the City.

In export processing trade, hi-tech products and LCDs are most typical. From January to July, the import and export total of the two kinds amount to 4.29 billion and 3.21 billion US dollars, increasing by 120% and 390%. The top three in import and export trade are Ningbo Export Processing Zone, Ningbo Development Zone and Cixi Processing Trade Zone. Their trade value covers 34.3% of the total of Ningbo.

Complaints of tourists in hotels and scenic spots in Xiangshan County now can be immediately settled. Recently, Xiangshan Industrial and Commercial Bureau and Xianshan Tourist Administration have established tourist rights protection stations in all the nine scenic spots and hotels.

With the coming of the busy season of tourism, more and more tourists are coming to Xiangshan and this leads to more tourists’ complaints. The tourist rights protection stations are expected to coordinate related government departments to settle tourists' complaints, supervise the service quality of the scenic spots and hotels, protect the legal rights of tourists, and promote the tourist market.

It is learned that in the first half of this year, 10 complaints were accepted and 100% of the complaints have been settled.

Recently, Ningbo Charity Federation has given out 976,000 yuan of learn fare to 300 poverty-stricken college students. The rules are: 5000 yuan for a 4-year college student, 3500 yuan for a 3-year college student. 

It is learned that the money for the poverty-stricken colleges comes from donations of many enterprises and persons. Zhejiang Ningbo Tobacco Company donated 426,000 yuan to support 30 students from Fenghua, Ninghai and Xiangshan; Ningbo Ningxing Holding Company donated 200,000 yuan to help 20 students from Haishu and Jiangdong; Ningbo Haitian Company donated 150,000 yuan to help 15 students from Zhenhai and Beilun; Jingang Charity Fund and a Mr. Ye respectively give out 50,000 yuan to help 20 college students from Yuyao, and a person assumed Hu Kun donated 100,000 yuan to help 20 students in Jiangbei District.

An initial estimation shows that the charity federations in cities and district of Ningbo this year will give out 6,300,000 yuan of learn fare to 1,500 poverty-stricken students.

The other day, the Ministry of Finance, the National Development and Reform Commission and the State Administration for Industry and Commerce jointly issued a notice that stipulates that from September 1 2008 the country shall stop collecting the market management fee for privately or individually owned businesses. According to Ningbo Municipal Administration of Industry and Commerce, in line with related instruction, Ningbo already stopped collecting the fee since August.

It is learned that in the 1980's the country started collecting the market management fee for privately or individually owned businesses, which is used to build markets and as cost for management services and so on.

Statistics show that by the end of 2007, Ningbo had 260,000 privately owned businesses. Last year, the market management fee paid by the privately-owned businesses amounted to 180 million yuan.

Recently, a plan for the water diversion for the rivers in the urban areas of Ningbo was approved. According to the plan, over 1600 rivers of various sizes will be linked together, and fresh water from the Yaojiang River and Dongqian Lake will be diverted into these rivers, and make these rivers running. Experts say this project has three parts: to ensure the water sources, to link the rivers  and to build pump stations. Since 2006, Ningbo started surveying the river network of the city, and this established a foundation for the diversion plan.

The Yaojiang River and Dongqian Lake are listed major water sources of the rivers. When the project is completed, the Yaojiang Rive will get more water from the Cao’e River and the Fuchun River, and diverts water to the rivers in the urban areas of Ningbo.

The other day, A new model of monocrystalline silicon has put into mass production by Ningbo Shanshan Ulica Solar Technology Developing Co., Ltd., the first producer of this battery in China and the second in the world.

Recently, Ningbo Folk Arts Performance Group overwhelmed the Izmir International Cultural Festival in Turkey.

According to Jiangxi Railway authority, the passenger line from Tongling to Jiujiang is to open on September 1. This line will shorten the trip between Jiujiang and Nanjiu from 16 hours to 8 hours.

It is learned that the passenger trips are Nanchang to Nanjing, Nanchang to Ningbo and Nanchang to Wuchang.

The train 2534 is an express train from Nanchang to Ningbo.

Tongling-Jiujiang railway is a national key project, 251 km in length, completed on March 2008.

Recently, a gigantic waxguard was found in Fenghua. The super waxguard is 106 cm in length, 50 cm in diameter, and weighs 40.6 kg.

According to Ningbo Municipal Bureau of Labor and Social Security, 162,000 migrant workers in Ningbo have got opportunities of professional training for free.

This is a result of project called “government buys vocational skills training for migrant workers”. This project was started in September 2006, with an aim to help those migrant workers to promote their vocational skills. A migrant worker participating a professional training and getting a certificate for a profession shall have a subsidy of 150-300 yuan.

Take the training center of Zhejiang Textile Vocational College for example, in the last year, the training center gave training to 1,020 workers in sewing, weaving and spinning, and 998 of them have got professional certificates.

The thousand-Buddha Tower in Tiantong Temple, the Maitreya Statue, and the yachting area at Ninghai, there are some of the newly built scenic areas. According to Ningbo Municipal Tourist Administration, Ningbo this year has started 16 municipal key tourist projects.

In order to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the establishment of the reform and opening up policy, the other day, the Dandinghe Community in Jiangdong invited a retired cadre Mr. Chen Guorong, to talk about the great changes in the 30 years with the teenagers.
